Sour Water Stripper System Testing
For 20 years we have been providing specialist support in the often-neglected area of sour water stripping (SWS). Our SWS subject matter experts work together with our analytical specialists to diagnose and resolve the fouling, corrosion and stripped water specification challenges that these units often face. Because of the extensive insight into the process gained through this, our experts can also provide reliability and design reviews of this process.
In conjunction with our partners Amine Experts, we have developed unparalleled analytical techniques in the field of SWS. All our SWS subject matter experts are engineers with an operational background and a practical understanding of what does and does not work in real SWSs. We offer the following services:
SWS System Fouling Investigation
Sour water stripping can be extremely fouling service with many strippers being unable to meet the same shutdown frequency as the rest of the refinery, which can have a large economic impact. Our fouling investigations are extremely rigorous and normally entail connecting specialized in-situ filtration and coalescer test rigs to the sour water feed to collect particulate and liquid hydrocarbon-based fouling precursor in their state at operating conditions. This allows for accurate analysis and diagnosis of the fouling.
SWS Product Quality Investigation
Meeting, ammonia and sulphide specifications can be a challenge. In addition to fouling, multiple possible contaminants can render meeting specification next to impossible. Adding complexity to the issue, sour water samples can deteriorate over time. It is thus critical to sample appropriately and analyse the sample accurately in as short a timeframe as possible. Most refinery labs are not oriented towards detailed analysis of aqueous solutions. Amine Experts field crews will correctly sample and analyse the samples to obtain accurate results. These will be used to build a simulation of the plant and to troubleshoot its performance. Amine Experts has an excellent track record of resolving operational challenges of this nature.
SWS Spent Caustic Disposal Investigation
Similar to the product quality investigation, in this case the investigation focuses on determining if and in what quantity spent caustic can be dumped into the sour water system, and the measures and equipment needed in order for this to be done without putting the sour water off specification.
SWS Design and Design Review Studies
A subject matter expert will review a proposed design or prepare the conceptual design for a new or potentially revamped SWS.
SWS Plant Analytical Only Test
Sour water samples can deteriorate over time and it is critical to correctly sample and analyse the sample in as short a timeframe as possible. Most refinery labs are not oriented towards detailed analysis of aqueous solutions. Amine Experts field crews will correctly sample and analyse the samples to obtain accurate results that can be used for troubleshooting and simulation. Note that with this option there is no engineering, simulation or interpretation of the results.
SWS Plant Test and System Review
An analytical test with engineering review of system, analogous to the Sulphur Experts SRU plant test. Accurate sampling and analysis will be performed on all pertinent streams, and a simulation of the unit built in order to optimise treating and energy usage. Potential threats to the reliability of the unit will be assessed and solutions presented.
SWS Consulting Troubleshooting Investigation or Consulting Reliability Review
A sour water stripper specialist engineer will visit the site to help resolve corrosion, foaming or other operational problems.
